Programming

The Weller Health Education Center takes preventive health education to a level above what classroom teachers can provide. Specifically, we offer 33 assemblies in nutrition and fitness, drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention, growth and development, character education and hygiene. All programs are designed to meet state department of education academic standards and are delivered by specially-trained health educators with degrees in public health, health education or related fields. These health educators use lifelike teaching models, state-of-the-art exhibits, high-impact multimedia, and targeted student interaction and activities to translate complex health information into easy-to-understand concepts. We employ a comprehensive system for measuring outcomes. Ongoing impact evaluations demonstrate that the Weller Health Education Center is meeting and exceeding its program objectives as the students consistently show significant knowledge gain and retention.

In addition to student programs, we also provide a multitude of wraparound resources including:

  • Enrichment activities and lesson plans to implement in the classroom before and after our program
  • Comprehensive online health resource libraries for kids, teens and parents
  • Professional development workshops for teachers and educational programs for parents in each topic area
  • The ability to customize programs to best address the specific needs of each school we serve
  • A baseline health risk behavior survey tool to help school districts identify critical health issues among students so we can more effectively plan and implement prevention programs. Read more…
