The Weller Health Education Center is now accepting nominations for four awards to be presented at the 7th Annual Outstanding Friend to Kids Awards breakfast, October 16, 2009, at the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
 
These awards are given to individuals and organizations that have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact on the health and well-being of children in our community.
 
The categories are:
Young Achiever (under 18 years of age)
Invested volunteer time on a project to benefit a specific cause
Initiated an act of kindness that benefits another
Past recipients include: Zachary Kraus, Angel 34 and Nicole Sheriff

Community Service Organization
Individual/organization that made a powerful impact of the lives of children
Involved in community efforts to create a positive influence on children or adolescents
Demonstrated innovative and creative ways to promote healthy children and families
Past recipients include: Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley, Dr. Bonnie Coyle and Women's 5K Classic

Children's Advocate
Demonstrated outstanding leadership skills in motivating others to improve children's lives
Advocated on behalf of children's issues in local, state or national government
Past recipients include: Dr. Karen E. Senft, Jerry Sandusky and HEY (Health Education for Youth Consortium)

Philanthropist
Demonstrated exceptional generosity through direct charitable support to benefit children
A model of charitable generosity that encourages others to follow his/her example
Past recipients include: Carl E. and Emily I. Weller Foundation, Marlene and Beall Fowler and Kostas Kalogeropoulos

May 15, 2009 is the deadline for accepting nominations. Award recipients will be notified by June 30.
