The Weller Health Education Center has developed a first-of-its-kind health risk behavior survey to assist school districts with identifying and addressing the serious issues faced by students in grades 7 – 12. This unique survey is designed to ascertain which health risk behaviors middle and high school students are engaging in so that curricula and programming resources can be allotted appropriately and effectively. It is the only survey of its kind that is customized for each participating school district.
How is Weller’s survey different?
Whereas other surveys yield only general information on pre-determined subjects, the Weller Health Education Center’s Health Risk Behavior Survey allows districts to expand questioning to the issues impacting their students and gain a more in-depth understanding of the risky behaviors in their district.
Every question has a purpose.
Pre-survey student focus groups and meetings with key faculty and administrators allow us to focus the survey questions on only those issues and topics pertinent to the district.
You are part of the process.
In addition to participating in the survey tool design, administrators control how and when survey data is released.
Minimal time commitment.
Our use of a table format for many questions allows us to capture a significant amount of data in less time. Whereas other surveys take an entire class period to complete, our approximately 30-question tool requires only 20 minutes of class time.
Leverage funding sources.
Our flexible survey instrument allows you to capture health risk behavior data specific to your student population which is invaluable when writing grants. You can also include questions that will yield data related to current issues or funding opportunities.
Focus your resources.
Because the survey yields critical information on the specific issues students are facing and the age of onset of particular risky behaviors, districts can more efficiently direct time and resources to addressing and preventing these behaviors.
Ongoing support.
Our survey is accompanied by the Weller Health Education Center’s recommendations for timing of curricula and programming in response to survey results. This access to health education professionals is not available with the results of other surveys and allows the baseline survey findings to be converted to action steps with great ease.
