Should I Risk It? An after-school series on gambling, drugs and alcohol
Eligibility: After-school programs in Northampton County for children in grades 3-5 and 6–8.

With the rapid expansion of gambling in our society, it’s important that children be informed about the risks that attend underage gambling. They need to understand that gambling, drug and alcohol addiction are progressive and powerful disorders which can negatively affect their lives.

The Weller Center is facilitating four one-hour educational sessions with math-centered activities. The first three programs will be focused on gambling and the last one on the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

Kids Don’t Gamble … Wanna Bet? (3 sessions for grades 3-5 or 6-8)
This curriculum is designed to discourage underage gambling and to improve critical thinking and problem solving related to gambling.

Drugs: Choice or Chance  (1 session for grades 3-5)
The definition of drugs is emphasized as students discover potentially harmful aspects of chemical substances including tobacco, medications, alcohol, caffeine, energy drinks, steroids and household
cleaners.

Myth Busting (1 session for grades 6-8)
Through a hard-facts presentation, common misconceptions about drugs and smoking are dispelled while exploring the media’s portrayal of drug use. The effects of drug use on the body will be discussed.
