STUDENTS LEARN HOW TO BE A GOOD FRIEND AT BIRDSBORO ELEMENTARY AND MONOCACY KINDERGARTEN CENTER

On Monday, December 11, more than 600 kindergarten through fifth graders in the Daniel Boone Area School District participated in interactive lessons on character education. The programs, It Takes Practice to be a Friend and Where Do Bullies Grow?, were led by a health educator from the Weller Center, a nonprofit health education center offering programs for students in grades K-12.

During It Takes Practice to be a Friend, a health educator from the center, with special assistance from puppets Wiggles and Squiggles, helped the students learn healthy ways to express their feelings, how to be a good listener, how to share and ways to help other people who are sad.

During Where Do Bullies Grow?, students identified and learned to understand the different types of bullies while also learning strategies to deal with a bully. At the conclusion of the program, students interacted with A.J., a child-sized robot that will role-play with volunteers on how to deal with a bully.
