As part of its support for the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project, Aetnaannounced that it has created a national recognition campaign called “Aetna Voices of Health.” The campaign will honor organizations that promote King’s vision of racial equality and individual empowerment, while also sharing Aetna’s goals of closing racial and ethnic health care quality gaps and helping people live healthier lives.
The Weller Health Education Center is pleased to have been chosen as one of the 35 organizations from across the country that exemplify these qualities. Through Oct. 8 Weller will participate in an on-line competition for one of three national awards. Aetna will donate $25,000 to the organization receiving the most on-line votes; $15,000 to the second-place finisher; and $10,000 to the third-place finisher.
Weller’s program, Niños en Acción, specifically addresses the obesity issues in local school districts by providing in-school programs, after-school activities and community nights for the entire family. With a first place finish, Weller will be able to reach an additional 9,000 children in our area to help them realize the lifetime benefits of healthy eating and exercise.
